Sally Ride
Sally Ride was the first American Woman to travel to space with NASA. She traveled through space in the space shuttle “Challenger” at 7:33 a.m. . This groundbreaking launch was on June 18, 1983. Before lift off Sally Ride said, “The fact that I was going to be the first American woman to go into space carried huge expectations along with it,” According to this quote found on NASA’s page about her, it is shown that being the first American woman in space held a lot of pressure and responsibility. Since Sally Ride would be guiding the path to more women looking forward to touching the stars. Space in Sally Ride’s words: “One moment I will never forget is from when I was an astronaut. I remember floating over to the window for the first time, looking toward the horizon and seeing a very, very thin royal-blue line all the way across the horizon. It looked like someone had taken a blue pencil and outlined the Earth. Then I realized that the blue line was Earth's atmosphere. It was memorable because it was obvious then how fragile and delicate our atmosphere is – there just isn't very much of it-- but it sure is important!”
